Tips to a healthier planet!
be-dom depends on garbage. It’s with it that we build our instruments, the majority of our scenarios and part of our clothes.
However we get frizzled with the amount of waste generated, every day, all over the world.
To fulfill people necessities, every year there is a consumption of millions of tons of energy and raw materials, resulting as well in polluting rivers and seas, destroying rainforests, extinguishing hundreds of species and exploiting people, often in inhumane conditions.
Besides all of this, one have to deal with the waste, and although a good part is treated and a small percentage recycled, millions of bags, cans, papers, packaging, bottles, batteries, oils, etc, are thrown directly to the land, air and sea.
Part of this problem’s solution goes through people who dedicate themselves throughout the world to the art of “up-cycling“, giving new use and function to objects that are no longer suitable for others.
In our case, we do it with the "up-cycling" of almost everything that we have on stage (from scenarios, instruments and clothing). We also teach how to do so through our workshops for manufacturing of instruments and percussion. Normally for schools, companies, children, teenagers, teachers and those who want to learn the principles of recycling, reuse and sustainability.
This said, we are counting on you to join us in order to protect the planet resources, lessen the pollution and waste, contributing to the maintenance of biological diversity and create a more prosperous future for this and future generations.
Be-dom is giving small (large) steps to make their performances and tour greener.
But at home we also want to be more environmentally friendly. And it can be quite simple. Here are some tips:
1 – When you’re shopping, say to the operator: “thank you, I have no need of bag. Brought one from home”. For bread, also take a reusable bag. Per year you’ll throwing away 150 bags less;
2 – Whenever possible, choose organic food that does not use pesticides;
3 – For your home, search for cosmetics and toiletries with eco-labels – and preferably not tested on animals – which do less damage to the environment and to your health;
4 – Decrease the use of packaged products;
5 – Separate all the garbage possible and deliver it to recycling at the proper sites. Separate the batteries, corks, plastics and other packaging, paper, glass, clothing, Styrofoam, oils, tires, etc. You can also have a small bucket for composting. It will probably become helpful to you and your neighbour’s backyard;
6 – Use your bike more, share the car with other people or use public transportation more often;
7 – Close the tap while washing your teeth, during the bath (which can be very pleasant even when shorter) or washing the dishes;
8 – And still in the bath: collect the cold water that runs while warming up and use it to water the plants, for instance.
9 – Honour the brands of clothes, electronics, cosmetics and others that are more environmentally and socially responsible. Each purchase you make is a vote of trust on these brands;
10 – Replace incandescent bulbs by energy-efficient lamps as the LED ones;
11 – Use fabric napkins instead of disposable paper.
This list is always growing, and if you’ve got good ideas we appreciate you send them with us, so that we can share and together save the planet.
